A Wind Energy Company Faces Certain Issues

A wind energy company faces certain issues as to where to setup shop. An energy company cannot just throw up a wind farm anywhere and have it be effective. The owners must research carefully to find the right location as far as the wind speeds and often the wind blows.

Generally, the higher the altitude and in areas that are fairly open have the fastest wind speeds. Places like hilltops, shorelines that are open, the openness of the plains, and the gaps in between mountains are great for a wind energy company to setup shop, because of the kind of wind they produce. Winds are not the same all over the USA though.

The winds are variable from month to month and depending on the seasons. For example in parts of California the wind blows less in the winter than it does from spring to the beginning of autumn. This is due to the Mojave Desert experiencing such extreme hot temperatures in the summer.

In 2008, 31 various states generated electricity using wind machines or wind turbines. California, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Minnesota were the leaders in wind production though. This clearly shows though that people are starting to understand the value of wind-generated power.

The coastline in the USA is ideal for wind generation in many places. But people are objecting in many areas because they feel it destroys the beauty of the oceans. A plan exists to construct a wind plant offshore off the Cape Cod coast in Massachusetts.

Most of the plants for wind generation happen to be in either the United States or in Europe, because the government helps wind energy company with funding programs to develop the wind power. The statistics in 2008 showed that the USA is the number one wind power producer, with Germany 2nd, Spain 3rd, and China 4th. The country of Denmark comes in 9th but it makes around 20% of the country's electricity through wind generation.

Wind power is not a new idea; rather it is revisiting an idea that has been around since ancient times. A Wind energy company might be a new idea but not the wind power itself. As far back as the ancient Egyptians, more than 5,000 years ago powered their ships with wind to travel the Nile River. Then in Persia, the first known windmills were built. Holland, centuries later, improved on these and built a better designed one. These windmills are still famous in Holland today.

Then the colonists in America adapted the windmills to help grind the corn and wheat into much needed flour, pump their water and run their sawmills. In the 1920s and 1930s, small windmills were used by Americans to provide electricity to rural areas of the country.

Today's current energy crisis as made us revisit the use of the wind to generate power to help us do our daily tasks. A wind energy company is a valuable commodity that we need more of right now. Slowly cities and states are realizing how important alternative energy sources are.
