Solar Energy Advantages & Disadvantages
By: Ryan Narendra
There is a widespread move in the world today in regard to cutting back harmful gas emissions and making better use of the more readily available means we already have at hand. The sun and its warmth is
one such natural resource that we always have with us.
Solar energy advantages and disadvantages are being debated widely in the news media as well as throughout our educational arenas. From years gone by, man has used the benefits of the sun to accomplish many everyday functions, such as the drying of laundry and dehydration of fruits and vegetables without any special equipment. Recent science has further developed methods by which man can harness this natural resource to perform in an even greater capacity.
Most likely, one of the biggest drawbacks to the start-up of any new program is that of initial costs which can be rather remarkable if one is going to have
solar panels installed on the family residence.
Solar energy advantages and disadvantages can be broken down into increments that would create a more thorough understanding of what the over-all cost savings will equate to over any set period of time. Today we see that many of our neighbourhood lawns are lighted by solar fixtures as well as many home swimming pools are heated by this same method.
Whether one is dedicated to the eco-system or just anxious to get out of the grid, the prospect of making use of the sun's energy can be an interesting project. Of the many solar energy advantages, there are several disadvantages as well. The initial start-up and installation costs might be prohibitive and the amount of space that is
required for the solar panels could be a major concern. If there are no issues in this respect, one must consider that there may be days when clouds or wind might hinder getting the full benefit of the sun's rays. When considering the solar-powered cars, there may be issues as to the lack of speed that is inherent with these vehicles. Is our pace of living ready for this "slow down"? Thoughts to ponder!
The positive side of making use of
the sun's energy is that it is a renewable source. The popularity of solar energy advantages articles in news media is right at the top of the charts. Consider the possibility of having electricity ready and available at that cabin on the lake which is far too remote to have line access. Today, there are numerous incentive programs, both on the state and federal level that offer tax rebates to encourage individuals to end or at least lessen our dependency on fuels such as oil and coal. None of us like to think of all that pollution into our air supply.
